From the first contact with a potential new parent (usually an email), I try to make sure my babies
have happy lives with their new owners. I usually ask the prospective owner to email me their number
(or they can call me if they prefer). I have an unlimited long distance plan so there will be no cost to
the prospective buyer. Some of my questions include:
1. Have you ever owned a Jack Russell Terrier?
2. If so, why do you prefer Jack Russell Terriers to other breeds?
3. If you have not previously owned a Jack Russell, what do you know about a Jack Russell Terrier?
4. Will you be able to spend a lot of time with your pup?
5. How will your pup be able to live in your new home? For example, do you plan to have your pup
live inside or outside your home or both? Have you discussed owning a Jack Russell Terrier with
your vet?
6. How do you plan to house train your pup?
7. Do you have children? If so, what are their ages? Have you discussed the responsibility of
owning a pup with them?
8. Do you plan to raise Jack Russell Terriers? If so, what organizations are you involved with?
How equipped are you to be able to raise a litter of pups?
9. Do you prefer a more active/less active pup? What type of markings do you prefer?
What size pup do you prefer?
These questions are certainly not meant to intimidate you, but to help you make a responsible
choice in choosing a Jack Russell pup that will be rewarding for both you and your dog. Happy
owners and pups are the ultimate goal of my breeding program. Most of my pups are placed by
referrals and happy owners refer programs that help them make a good decision. Most of the time
I can usually talk to a person in fifteen minutes or so and tell if they will be happy with a russell in
their home.
After a specific pup is chosen, a deposit is placed on this pup. The owner and I discuss when will
be the optimum time for the adoption of the pup. Consideration is given to the amount of time the
owner will be able to spend with the pup when he/she first arrives. The younger a pup, the more
time required to spend with him/her. Consideration is also given to travel. During hot summer
months or very cold winter months, the temperature is a definite consideration in shipping via
airlines. Some pups can be shipped immediately upon receipt of payment if they are old enough;
others must wait until for the temperatures to subside to travel to their new homes.
